AVIC-ENG invested Two Rivers Mall in Kenya opens for business

(Correspondent: Hu Guohui) On February 17, Two Rivers Mall, invested by AVIC-ENG, Kenya’s renowned listed company CENTUM Group and Jiangxi Water and Hydropower, was officially opened in Nairobi, Kenya. Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Minister of Industry, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Liu Xianfa were present at the ceremony. General Manager of AVIC-ENG, Kenya Branch Gao Bingsheng on behalf of the company attended the opening ceremony.

During the ceremony, AVIC-ENG and Jiangxi Water and Hydropower made donations, and President Kenyatta on behalf of the government accepted the 22 million Kenyan shilling fund that was raised before and would be used to support its people in case of drought relief.

At the ceremony, Liu Xianfa said that the Two Rivers project is a comprehensive one developed by AVIC INTERNATIONAL and Jiangxi Water and Hydropower for development of international projects and overseas business through investment. And it indicates the spirit of cooperation among Chinese and Kenyan enterprises, consortiums and South African capital. He lavished praise on the project team for being united and excelsior, surmounting the tough task, and finally finishing the mall in two and a half years, creating the “speed of East Africa”.

President Kenyatta in his speech praised the Two Rivers project that is invested by Chinese enterprises. He said that Kenya is undergoing dramatic changes. And the project is a major one that is led by Kenyan listed company CENTUM, with cooperation and investment of AVIC INTERNATIONAL and Jiangxi Water and Hydropower. And official opening of the mall marks the significant success of a world-class city complex in sub-Saharan Africa. The project, as the outcome of cooperation of Kenyan and Chinese enterprises for mutual benefit, opens a new chapter in bilateral exchanges between the two countries, and works as a model for more Chinese enterprises in the Kenyan market in the future.

Since its trial operation on February 14, Two Rivers Mall has attracted more than 35,000 visitors from all over the world within three days, and its opening also created 3500 jobs for Kenyan people.
